Creamy pasta sauce mixed with sriracha, honey, olive oil and herbs creates an unexpectedly delicious, sweet with a kick flavor combo done in 30 minutes!
Sriracha? Honey? On…pasta?
Yes. YASSSS. It’s absolutely delicious. While it may not be the most common flavor profile, the sriracha and honey add a sweet but subtle kick to a delicious creamy pasta base with olive oil and herbs.
I’m a huge fan of sweet and spicy things, and if you guys haven’t noticed yet, I’m also a huge fan of sweetening things with honey. I love the way it softens the blow of the sriracha, and pairs so well with the creaminess of the pasta. If you’re nervous about the spice, I would say that has more of a kick than your regular jar of creamy pasta sauce, but by no means will have you sweating or reaching for a glass or milk. My husband ate ALL the leftovers (this recipe goes with an entire box of pasta) and he is not a big fan of spicy foods. He’s like my little spice test guinea pig.
One thing I will ask of you, the cream is what really tones down the sriracha flavor, and it is not added until the very end when you are done simmering. So, if you taste test while the sauce is simmering, you will be able to very clearly taste the sriracha. Feel free to taste taste, but I’d suggest waiting until after the cream is in to make changes, or at least keep that in mind! Then if you want you can add more cream or honey, or heck, maybe even more sriracha!
I’m calling this easy creamy pasta sauce for a reason. We’re using canned tomatoes, dumping in the ingredients, and letting them simmer to marry the delicious flavors together. To start, heat butter and olive oil over medium heat and then add in your diced onion and garlic to saute for a minute or two. Turn the heat to medium low and add in everything but the cream to let it simmer. When it’s done you can stir in the cream and some parmesan and pour over your cooked pasta! Another thirty minute meal perfect for weeknights!
