Fluffy, creamy, sweet jello salad is made with pears, lime jello, dream whip, and cream cheese, and is a perfect dessert for summer pot-lucks!
To set the record straight, she’s not technically my Nana. She’s my Great Aunt and her name is Sally, but she’s my closest cousin’s Nana and somewhere along the way I started calling her that too. I also call my cousin my Aunt so, who knows.
What I do know is this. Nana Sally is known for her green jello salad. And I’m pretty sure my cousins have it for every single holiday. We agreed we needed to share it with the world.
Green jello salad is one of those dishes that’s hard to explain if you’ve never had it, but this is a food blog and that’s kind of my (un)paid job, so I’ll do my best. Outsiders have described it as having a sherbet like consistency because of the fluffiness that the cream cheese and dream whip provide. It’s sweet and kind of melts in your mouth. It taste like limes and something you probably can’t put your finger on until I tell you that it’s pears. And it’s oh so good.
I prefer it in the summer with potlucks that include burgers, and hotdogs, and watermelon, and all those other yummy summer foods you have with big get-togethers. I also think making it in these cute little mason jars is perfect for showers! Make a little jar for every guest and decorate to your liking with ribbons and fruit for a super fun dessert or party favor.
This recipe starts with an ingredient that may or may not give away which decade it was created in….DREAM WHIP. I totally had to google what that was. Have you guys ever used it in a recipe? That stuff was stocked at Walmart so someone’s buying it!
I’d love to hear what your favorite go-to potluck recipes are! Is there an old family recipe that you make for every holiday but have a hard time explaining to anyone else? Give em a shoutout in the comments below.
