Adorable baby shower idea for a boy or girl! Full list of how to plan the perfect storybook themed baby shower with 8 food and drink stations.
This summer I had the privilege of cohosting a couple’s baby shower for my beautiful sister and brother-in-law. It was a storybook themed baby shower and every food and drink had a matching book. Not only is it an adorable and fun way to throw a party, but the decorations double as gifts! Give the books to the parents-to-be, as a sweet way to start off their collection. See the full list of food, drinks, games, decorations, party favors, and invitations to cover absolutely everything you need to host the perfect storybook themed baby shower.
Food & Drink Stations
It’s important when you’re planning a baby shower to know how much you are capable of doing yourself. A few things to keep in mind: how many people you have helping you, how many things need to go in the oven, how many hours you’ll have to prep before the shower starts, if you’ll have to transport the food to another location, and how busy your week is leading up to the shower. I love making food and entertaining, but I also know that making everything homemade, and having it all come together at the same time can be overwhelming. My advice, if you have something that you love to make homemade, or if you have a lot of help, go for it. If not there are PLENTY of store bought options that are perfect for parties, and a lot easier to throw together! If you live buy a Trader Joe’s, Costco, or Sam’s Club, you’re options are endless. Here’s a list of all the food we provided with matching storybook themes.
Three Little Pigs – Pigs in a blanket!
We used Trader Joe’s parmesan pastry pups. They are found in the freezer aisle and they are so so so good!
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs – Spicy Meatballs!
My sister’s good friend Amanda and her husband hosted the shower at their beautiful home in Atlanta. For the meatballs theme, she got party size meatballs from Trader Joe’s and warmed them up with a spicy tomato sauce that everyone loved. Buy some cute toothpics to help your guests grab the meatballs, and celebrate the baby girl or boy!
Green Eggs & Ham – Spinach Quiche
The Stinky Cheese Man – Three Cheese Quiche or a Cheese Tray
Store bought petite quiche taste great. We used Costco to buy spinach and three cheese. When you’re hosting a party, it can be hard to know when to put things in the oven. I personally try to come a few minutes late to showers to give the hosts a few minutes to finish setting up (and God forbid I arrive first). That being said, there’s always someone who shows up early. Don’t worry about it! Just give yourself at least 10 minutes before you guests come to get your food out of the oven and onto serving platters. So, if your party starts at noon, and your quiche takes, let’s say, 20 minutes to make, get them in the oven 30 minutes before you guests arrive, and you’ll be good to go.
The Hungry Caterpillar – Chocolate Covered Strawberries or a Fruit Tray
We got chocolate covered strawberries at the store, but you could definitely make them yourselves if you felt like it. Decorate them with pink or blue sprinkles for extra cuteness! If your shower is a little earlier than ours was, and you don’t want chocolate covered strawberries for breakfast, make a caterpillar out of fruit for a total crowd pleaser.
The Tale of Peter Rabbit – Veggie Tray
It’s always nice to have some healthy stuff out to please everyone, and cause ya know, balance. Place some rabbit food out with ranch for a cute snack.
If You Give a Dog a Donut – Mini Donuts
Amanda picked up the cutest little mini donuts from a local bakery for an adorable sweet treat. If you don’t have a local bakery nearby, or you want to save a little money, just pick up some donut holes the morning of the shower! And yes, that is a fruity pebbles donut. And yes, it was delicious. If Baby Momma doesn’t like donuts, there are a lot of other variations of this book! Theres, “If You Give a Dragon a Taco”, “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie”, “If You Give a Pig a Pancake”, and a bunch of other cute ideas.
The Ugly Duckling – Pink or Blue Lemonade or Punch
Throw some rubber duckies in a cute punch bowl or drink dispenser and you’re good to go!
Decorations, Party Favors, and Invitations
Etsy and Amazon have tons of great decorations to make your baby shower extra sweet! We found these adorable Once Upon a Time invitations that are perfect for a storybook theme shower. They come with an insert that says, “One request, we hope it won’t be too hard, please bring a book instead of a card.” Guests can write a sweet note for the baby that Mom and Dad can read to them when they arrive! To keep with the theme, find some plates and napkins to tie it all together.
Send guests off with a sweet party favor that they can help celebrate with.
That’s everything you need to plan the perfect storybook themed baby shower.
On a final note…how cute is my preggo sis!?
